Kikara will be opening two new branches in Newton and White Rock

Kikara™ is expanding! We are very proud to announce we will be opening two new branches: one in Newton and one in White Rock. Please come to our grand opening ceremonies, at Kikara Newton on Saturday, November 6th, or Kikara White Rock on Saturday, November 13th.

At Kikara, we believe martial arts can benefit everyone. We have students as young as four years old who take part in our programs. Many parents who ask about our programs wonder if we're just teaching their children to fight. In fact, educating children about when and how force can be avoided is one of the central tenets of our philosophy. We also believe we are teaching children to have enough self-esteem and confidence to avoid bullying and fighting.

Kikara teaches an innovative martial arts style called Sport Kickboxing (SKF style). It's a unique mix of defensive techniques, kicking, grappling, boxing, and weapons techniques. It combines the techniques and philosophies of more traditional martial arts with the athleticism and cardio components of kickboxing. Master Farhad Dordar created the style after studying six different martial arts forms. He opened his first martial arts academy in Canada in 1995.

At our Open Houses, we will be conducting self-defense lessons, free by donation. We hope it will have the power to change at least one person's life, whether inspiring a new commitment to fitness or giving a technique to use in a situation of danger.

In martial arts we believe in establishing a sense of community. As a part of this, we are very proud to announce we will be donating $500, and the money raised from the self-defense lessons, to U.N.I.T.E.D, (Unified Network of Indo-Canadians for Togetherness through Education and Discussion.) The group specifically focuses on the issue of preventing Indo-Canadian gang violence.

We will also have a clown and face painter, free food, and exciting martial arts demonstrations.
